L is for... Lice

There are two main types of lice, chewing lice and sucking lice. Chewing lice, called mallophaga, live on birds and mammals. Sucking lice, anoplura, live only on mammals. Anoplura are the type of lice that live on humans. Lice are hemimetabolous insects, meaning that they go from a nymph to an adult stage without a pupal stage.
