Pak ties for 17th at IIAC Championships

Ram rewind - The Cornell women's golf team concluded its fall season with the final two rounds of the Iowa Conference Championships Friday and Saturday at Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah.

Cornell's Na Ra Pak (Richmond, Calif./Albany) had a solid showing in her first conference tournament. The freshman tied for 17th out of 43 players, carding a 349 over the four-day event. Pak posted rounds of 82, 85, 88 and 94. Three of her top four rounds of the season were recorded at the conference meet.

Pak finished 13 strokes out of 10th-place. The top 10 individuals earned all-conference honors.

Cornell freshman Malloy Kerley (Fort Davis, Texas/Fort Davis) fired a season-low 95 in the final round and placed 37th overall with a 408. She lowered her score in each of the final three rounds, shooting 110, 103, 100 and 95.

Sophomore Nicole Thompson (Arden Hills, Minn./Irondale) did not compete over the final weekend. She carded a 197 at the halfway point of the tournament with rounds of 101 and 96 Sept. 25-26 at Pheasant Ridge Course Course in Cedar Falls.   

Wartburg captured its fifth IIAC women's golf championship in six years. The Knights finished the 72-hole tournament with a championship record score of 1,286 (311-314-331-330) and earned the IIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in May. Central sophomore Sara Paulson claimed medalist honors for the second consecutive year. Her 300 (73-72-73-82) set a new 72-hole championship record.

Cornell did not field a team score with only two players completing all four rounds.

Pak enjoyed a fine fall campaign, leading the Rams with an 89.5-stroke average per 18 holes. She had a low round of 81 at the Wartburg Invitational Sept. 12. Kerley ranked second among Cornell's scorers with a 105.8 average. Thompson had a 108.3 average, followed by Lauren Leipold (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) with a 117.8.
