Ram rewind - Cornell freshman Na Ra Pak (Richmond, Calif./Albany) put herself in all-conference contention at the midway point of the Iowa Conference Women's Golf Championships.
Pak is tied for 15th place after the first two rounds of the tournament, played Saturday and Sunday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. She stood ninth after an opening-round 82, and then shot 85 on the second day. Pak carded a 36-hole total of 167, only four strokes out of 10th place.
The tournament continues Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3, with the final two rounds held at Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah. The top 10 individual finishers earn all-conference accolades.
Cornell sophomore Nicole Thompson (Arden Hills, Minn./Irondale) is 35th with a 197. She turned in her top two rounds of the season with a 101 and 96. Freshman Malloy Kerley (Fort Davis, Texas/Fort Davis) is tied for 40th with a 213. She had rounds of 110 and 103.
"Na Ra and Nicole played very well. This was the first time Nicole has broken 100. She performed a lot better than I expected," Cornell head coach Dave Roe said. "Our three players compared well against several of the schools we competed against."
The Rams were unable to field a team score without a fourth player. Wartburg (311-314-625) holds a two-stroke edge over Central (322-305-627) in the team race. Central's Sarah Paulson is the individual leader with a 1-over par 145.
