Rams take on Coe in season-opening dual Sept. 1
MOUNT VERNON - Cornell College women's golf coach Dave Roe takes a young squad into the 2009 fall season, which gets underway Tuesday, Sept. 1 with an Iowa Conference dual against Coe at Jones Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.
The Rams have five players on the roster, all of them underclassmen. Sophomores Lauren Leipold (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) and Nicole Thompson (Arden Hills, Minn./Irondale) are the team's lone returning letterwinners, playing in the No. 4 and 5 spots in the lineup a year ago.
Sophomore Hattie Wagner (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) joins the team for her first season. The Rams also welcome freshmen Na Ra Pak (Richmond, Calif./Albany) and Roslyn Kerley (Fort Davis, Texas/Fort Davis).
"We will be very young and inexperienced," said Roe, entering his second season with the Rams. "We will get better as the season progresses."
Cornell has six scheduled tournaments this fall, including the Central Invitational Sept. 4-5 in Pella. The Rams will compete in meets hosted by Wartburg Sept. 12-13, Loras Sept. 18, St. Ambrose Sept. 19-20 and Mount Mercy Oct. 18-19. The IIAC Championships are held Sept. 25-26 in Cedar Falls and Oct. 2-3 in Decorah.
