Szczepanik leads Rams with 91.9 season scoring average
Ram review - Senior Brittany Szczepanik (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) tied for 16th in the medalist race in leading Cornell's fivesome at the St. Ambrose Spring Invitational Saturday at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport.
Szczepanik fired identical rounds of 45 for an 18-hole total of 90, only two strokes out of the top 10. Amanda Brodin (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) finished tied for 24th with a 45-49-94. She was followed by Sara Vittetoe (Cedar Rapids/Prairie) in 39th with a 51-54-105, Lauren Leipold (Algonquin, Ill./Harry D. Jacobs) in 48th with a 59-54-113 and Nicole Thompson (Arden Hills, Minn./Irondale) in 51st with a 59-64-123.
The Rams carded a 402 team score, taking eighth in the eight-team field. St. Ambrose turned in a winning score of 349, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Viterbo. Kelly Jansen of St. Ambrose claimed medalist honors with a 6-over par 78.
Cornell is not scheduled to compete in another meet this spring. Szczepanik led the Rams during the 2008-09 season with a 91.9 scoring average (per 18 holes), including a low round of 86. Brodin finished second on the team with a 98.7 average.
The Rams graduate three seniors in Szczepanik, Brodin and Vittetoe.
