Ram review - Cornell junior Kristin Paczosa (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) averaged 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Rams fell twice in Iowa Conference play last week.

The Rams (5-7 overall, 0-4 IIAC) dropped a 60-48 home decision to Buena Vista on Jan. 7 and then struggled on the road in a 74-41 setback to Luther Saturday.

Cornell was outrebounded, 85-57, in the two games. The Rams shot 31.8 percent from the field and connected on only 4-of-26 attempts from 3-point range.

Luther 74, Cornell 41 (Jan. 10, at Decorah)
The Norse set the tone early and built a 33-16 halftime lead in rolling past the Rams.

Freshman guard Morgan Woods (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) enjoyed her best offensive game as a Ram, netting a team-high 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Charlotte Milas (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) added eight points. Paczosa finished with six points and 10 rebounds. Tiffany Cowan (Independence, Mo./Truman) matched her season high with five steals.

The Rams turned the ball over 27 times and were beaten on the boards, 42-24. Luther shot a sizzling 58.3 percent (14-of-24) in the first half while limiting the Rams to five field goals.

"Luther's pressure really took a toll on us and we just aren't a team that can turn the ball over and have a lot of success," Cornell coach Brent Brase said. "Kristin had another solid game and it is good to have Teresa (Cecchetti) back (from injury and) starting to work herself into game shape."

Buena Vista 60, Cornell 48 (Jan. 7, at Mount Vernon)
Paczosa led all scorers with 18 points for the Rams, who hung with Buena Vista until surrendering a late second-half run.

"We played one of our best games of the year," Brase said. "I was really proud of the team as I felt they out-fought and out-hustled Buena Vista. Caitlyn Book had one of her better games of the year and Marissa Johnston and Morgan Woods continued to show signs of improvement."

Paczosa sank 7-of-15 field goals and went 4-of-4 from the foul line. She also had five rebounds and a pair of steals. The rest of the Rams combined to shoot 11-of-45 from the field, a 24.4 percent clip.

Freshman Caitlyn Book (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) played a fine floor game, totaling a game-high six assists with only one turnover. Cowan and Woods finished with eight and seven points, respectively.

Cornell pressured the Beavers into 20 turnovers while committing just 13. Buena Vista held a 43-33 advantage in rebounds. The Rams closed to within 49-40 with less than five minutes to play before the Beavers pulled away with an 8-0 run.

Career charts - Paczosa moved into ninth place on Cornell's career list for rebounds with 363. Cowan ranks third in that category with 614.

Cowan is closing in on the school's career record for made 3-point goals, currently with 109. Bindy Comito is the all-time leader with 114. Cowan needs five points to move past Joyce Weeg (935 points, 1980-83) and into fifth place on the career scoring list.
