Cowan named to Iowa Conference Second Team; Paczosa honorable mention
MOUNT VERNON - Cornell senior women's basketball player Tiffany Cowan (Independence, Mo./Truman) has been named to the 2008-09 All-Iowa Conference Second Team. Junior Kristin Paczosa (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) garnered honorable mention recognition.
Simpson's Carrie Larson was tabbed Player of the Year and Simpson's Brian Niemuth Coach of the Year.
Cowan, an honorable mention selection in 2008, led the Rams in points (13.4 ppg), steals (1.8 spg), field goals made (112), 3-point goals made (53) and free throw percentage (84.9). The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 6.4 rebounds, which ranked fourth in the IIAC. She recorded five double-doubles this season and 15 in her career.
Cowan, a four-year letterwinner who started 82 of 95 games, set the single-season school record for 3-point goals made with 53. She finished second on Cornell's all-time scoring list with 1,122 points. She holds the school mark for career 3-point goals made with 143. Cowan also ranks second in career steals (189) and third in career rebounds (694).
Paczosa, a 5-10 forward, claimed the league's rebounding title with 8.7 boards per game. She had nine double-figure rebound games. Paczosa's 209 total rebounds rank fifth on Cornell's single-season list.
Paczosa averaged 9.5 points and shot 80.8 percent from the foul line. She was second on the team with 22 blocks and third with 32 steals.
The Rams finished the season 7-17 overall, 2-14 in the IIAC. Cornell won two of its last three games, including an 82-80 decision over Central in the finale.
