Sports Medicine Staff

Orthopedic Surgeon:
Dr. Mark Mysnyk, Steindler Orthopedic Clinic PLC, is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the Midwest. Dr. Mysnyk assists in supervising Cornell's Athletic Training Program. Dr. Mysnyk was an alternate on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team in 1976 and wrestled for the University of Iowa from 1974 - 1979.
Physicians:
The Mount Vernon Family Medical Center, headed by Dr. Steve Young, are the team physicians for Cornell College. The doctors cover all home football games on a rotating basis and are on call for all other home events. They also work in the Ebersole Health Center, Cornell's student health center.
Dentist:
Dr. Ben Pospisil was born and raised here in Mount Vernon and graduated from the University of Iowa College Of Dentistry in 2004. In August of 2005, Dr. Ben opened his own practice uptown called Mount Vernon Family Dentistry. He and his staff are dedicated to providing the best dental care in a fun and comfortable setting using the most advanced diagnostic and restorative technologies available. "I take very seriously the responsibility of providing emergency and preventative care for Cornell athletes and students, your sons and daughters," Pospisil said. He resides in Mount Vernon with wife Megan, son Benny, and daughter Alaina.
Head Athletic Trainer:
Eric Dybvig, MA, ATC, LAT, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., begins his second season as Cornell's head athletic trainer after working with the Rams as an assistant for three years. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001 and his master's degree from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2004. Dybvig is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Mid-American Athletic Trainers' Association and the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society.
Dybvig and his wife, Kelly, live in Marion with their sons, Jackson, 4, and Will, 1.
Sport coverage: Volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, men's basketball, men's and women's track and field.
Assistant Athletic Trainers:
Loren Nydegger, ATC, LAT, CSCS, begins his second season as assistant athletic trainer at Cornell. Nydegger, a native of Bolan, Iowa and a 1989 graduate of St. Ansgar High School, earned an associates degree from Waldorf College in 1991 and received a bachelor's degree in community health with a minor in athletic training from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993. He spent six years in Mason City, working in a sports medicine clinic and as head athletic trainer at North Iowa Area Community College. Nydegger worked two years at Progressive Rehab in Iowa City. He was head athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach at Staples-Motley High School in Staples, Minn., from 2002-06.
Nydegger's wife, Renee, is a family physician at the University of Iowa Student Health Service in Iowa City. The couple have three children, Anna, 6, Ben, 4, and Clare, 2.

Kelly Taylor, ATC, LAT, begins her first season as an assistant athletic trainer on Cornell's sports medicine staff.
Taylor, a 2002 graduate of Knoxville High School and 2007 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, comes to the Hilltop after spending the 2008-09 school year as head athletic trainer at Northern University High School in Cedar Falls. She has also worked the past two years as a physician extender in orthopedic care for Dr. Jeffrey Clark, UNI's athletic physician and orthopedic surgeon. Taylor was a graduate assistant student trainer for UNI's softball team in 2007-08.
Taylor earned a bachelor's degree from UNI in athletic training and is working toward a master's degree from UNI, which she expects to receive in December 2009. During her undergraduate studies at UNI, Taylor assisted with the Panthers' baseball, football, women's soccer and men's and women's track and field teams. She also gained field experience as a student assistant at Cedar Falls High School, Waterloo East High School and Wartburg College. Taylor worked at Cedar Valley Physical Therapy in 2005 in Waterloo.
Taylor is board certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and has a CPR Professional Rescuer Certification. She is a NATA member and held membership on the UNI Student Athletic Trainer Organization from 2004-07.
Taylor is engaged to UNI graduate Drew Leeper. They plan to get married in fall 2010.
