Nothern ranked sixth, Donahue 10th for No. 14 Rams

MOUNT VERNON - Cornell College climbed one spot to No. 14 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, released Feb. 10.

The Rams (14-8 overall, 5-3 IIAC) have two wrestlers rated in the individual top 10 poll. Junior Nick Nothern (Salina, Kan./Salina South) slipped two positions to No. 6 at 133 pounds. Sophomore 141-pounder Kevin Donahue (Mechanicsville, Va./Saint Christopher's) cracked into the national rankings for the first time in his career at No. 10.

Seniors Dave Paramski (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), previously ranked No. 7 at 157, and Kyle Kehrli (Winthrop/East Buchanan), No. 10 at 174, both dropped out of the rankings.

Nothern stands 24-8 on the season, winning seven of his last eight matches. He is third on the team in decisions (11) and fourth in team points (105), takedowns (56) and 2-point near falls (8). Nothern has recorded six pins and two technical falls.

Donahue finished the regular season with a 22-8 mark. He owns a six-match winning streak, highlighted with a pin over Coe's 10th-ranked Johny Siegel in the regular-season finale. Donahue ranks second on the team in takedowns (75) and third in major decisions (8), first takedowns (21) and escapes (42). He has six pins and two technical falls.

The IIAC has 24 individuals and six teams rated in the national polls. Defending national champion Wartburg is ranked second, Coe fourth, Cornell 14th, Dubuque 15th, Luther 16th and Loras 30th.

The Rams finished in a tie with Dubuque for third place in the Iowa Conference standings. Cornell competes in the IIAC Championships Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Luther College in Decorah. The Rams recorded their highest IIAC finish at last year's meet, sending three individuals to the finals and placing fourth in the team race.
