Korn, Weinmeister toss complete-game wins on Florida trip

Ram review - Senior Casey Korn (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) and freshman Nick Weinmeister (Janesville/Janesville) both fired complete-game victories as the Rams finished 2-2 during their season-opening trip in Florida last weekend.
The Rams dropped an 8-7 decision to Grove City (Pa.) Feb. 27, but bounced back the next day to post a 2-1, 9-2 sweep over Clark (Mass.). Cornell concluded play Sunday with a 9-0 loss to Augustana (Ill.).
Andrew Patzke (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Jason Douglas (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) paced Cornell's hitting attack, both going 6 for 13 at the plate. Korn also had six hits and scored a team-high five runs over the weekend. Patzke and J.T. Pells (Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills) each had four RBIs.
The Rams held a 7-6 lead against Grove City before surrendering two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Patzke had three hits and three RBIs and Korn collected three hits, including a double. Adam Butler (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) struck out four and walked two in six innings.
Pells delivered a clutch two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Rams took the opening game from Clark, 2-1. Douglas and Korn tallied Cornell's other two hits in the game. Korn went the distance on the mound, yielding only three hits over seven innings. He fanned six and did not allow a walk.
Cornell pounded out 13 hits in the Game 2 win. The Rams broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Douglas, Patzke, Pells and Ryan Fincham (Englewood, Colo./Englewood) all had two hits apiece. Caleb Wilson (Benton, Ill./Benton) and Fincham each drove in a pair of runs. Weinmeister picked up his first collegiate pitching win, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Korn tagged two of the Rams' eight hits against Augustana, which scored seven of its runs after the fourth inning. The Rams left 12 runners on base and committed four errors.
