MOUNT VERNON - Kelly Taylor, a 2007 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, has joined Cornell College's sports medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer.
Taylor comes to the Hilltop after spending the 2008-09 school year as head athletic trainer at Northern University High School in Cedar Falls. She has also worked the past two years as a physician extender in orthopedic care for Dr. Jeffrey Clark, UNI's athletic physician and orthopedic surgeon. Taylor was a graduate assistant student trainer for UNI's softball team in 2007-08.
"We are really fortunate and excited to hire a person of Kelly's quality," Cornell head athletic trainer Eric Dybvig said. "Her experiences are top notch. She possesses good leadership skills and understands how to run a sports medicine program."
Taylor's duties at Cornell begin Aug. 31. She will cover men's and women's soccer, women's basketball and softball.
Taylor graduated from Knoxville High School in 2002 and earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training at UNI. She is working toward a master's degree from UNI, which she expects to receive in December 2009.
During her undergraduate studies at UNI, Taylor assisted with several of the Panthers athletic teams, including baseball, football, women's soccer and men's and women's track and field. She also gained field experience as a student assistant at Cedar Falls High School, Waterloo East High School and Wartburg College.
Taylor worked at Cedar Valley Physical Therapy in 2005 in Waterloo. She has volunteered her services in several capacities, including various Special Olympics events, Quadriplegic Rehabilitation, the NWCA Cliff Keen National Wrestling Duals and the Iowa State High School Football playoffs.
Taylor is board certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and has a CPR Professional Rescuer Certification. She is a NATA member and held membership on the UNI Student Athletic Trainer Organization from 2004-07.
