Cornell completed a nearly $1.3 million expansion and improvement project for its athletic facilities in September 2007.
Included in the summer projects were the installation of a purple Mondo surface for the indoor track and surrounding areas of the arena of the Small Multi-Sport Center. The nationally rated Ram wrestling program will benefit from an expanded 7,000-square-foot wrestling room. The Meyer Strength Training Facility, which opened in 2001, nearly doubled in size to 5,800 square feet and includes several pieces of new equipment.
"The recent renovations in the Multi-Sport Center continue to show the college's dedication and support for its student-athletes and athletic programs," Cornell's interim director of athletics Dick Simmons said. "All of Cornell's student-athletes will benefit from the renovated strength and conditioning room that will allow them to train at the highest levels for athletic competition. The new Mondo indoor track surface and expanded wrestling room now allow our track and field and wrestling athletes to practice and compete in two of the best venues in the Midwest."
These projects come less than a year after improving the Small Multi-Sport Center by refinishing the gymnasium floor, renovating the front lobby and adding new lighting to the gymnasium and arena.
