How OCAAT Works
Under Cornell's One-Course-At-A-Time (OCAAT) schedule, you'll spend virtually the same amount of time in class each week as you would on a semester system. The central difference is that you'll attend class at the same time of the day as all other Cornell students while focusing on a single subject of your choosing.Block schedule
The year is divided into nine blocks of eighteen class days each. You are required to take courses during eight blocks, and can use the ninth block any way you choose. You might pursue an internship or an independent study project during your free block. You might dedicate time to a sport or theatre performance. You might travel, spend time with your family, or simply take another course that interests you. Or you might leave your ninth block free so that you can get a head start on summer employment.
Daily schedule
Most on-campus classes run from 9 to 11 a.m. with a two-hour break to eat lunch, check your e-mail, attend meetings, catch up with friends, etc. Classes generally resume at 1 p.m. and all classes finish by 3 p.m., giving you the rest of the day to study or take part in opportunities on and off campus. Each course earns the equivalent of four credit hours on the semester system.
Block Breaks
All blocks begin on a Monday and end on a Wednesday. In between each block, you'll enjoy a four-day block break. Whether you stay on campus or go away, block breaks offer many possibilities for relaxation, socializing, adventure, and more. And as our block calendar shows, you'll also enjoy the typical Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.
