Boren Scholarship
Purpose: Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests. Boren Scholars represent a variety of academic backgrounds but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili.
Eligible majors: Fields of study related to national security interest

Critical Language Scholarship
Purpose: Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizens.
Eligible majors: All majors
Who can apply: Undergraduates/Graduates
On-Campus deadline: November 15th, 2013

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Program)
Purpose: Scholarships for study in Germany. Successful applicants may pursue an internship, independent study, master’s program, or undergraduate research.
Eligible majors: All majors

Deadline: Nov. – Feb. (varies by program)

Fulbright Summer Session
Purpose: For U.S. undergraduates to follow a three-six week summer program at a world-class university or cultural institution in the United Kingdom. Each institute provides an immersive academic, cultural and social experience for American freshmen and sophomores who wish to deepen their knowledge of the U.K. and its diverse population while developing their communication, research and presentation skills.
Eligible majors: All majors
Who can apply: First-Year Students, Sophomores
Deadline: March 11, 2013 5 p.m. (UK time)
Faculty advisor: Robert Givens, HistoryGilman International Scholarship
Purpose: The program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. 2,300 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded each year. The award must be used to defray study abroad costs, including program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare.
Students who apply for and receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad are then eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Scholarship Program for a total possible award of up to $8,000.
Eligible majors: All majors
Who can apply: Undergraduates who receive a Federal Pell Grant or can provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad.
Deadline: Oct. 10, 2012 and Mar. 1, 2013
